The Cathedral of Saint Vitus in Prague in the Sketches of Antonín Slavíček

The bachelor thesis focuses on the role of sketches in the work of Antonín Slavíček. As an exemple of his work is a sketch of gothic building of the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague, to which he devoted intensively at the end of his life. There are total of 11 preparatory sketches and studies for the painting. In the first part (chapter 1-3) of the work, the influences that formulated the painting of this artist will be analyzed, but mainly the sketch itself will be analyzed and also its essence will be described here in the fine arts, especially in the modern arts. The second part (chapter 4-5) will deal with the comparison for Slavíček of an atypical motif of architecture and his famous landscape theme, the analysis of individual sketches and the key question - to what extent did the painter base his sketches in the final work? What role did the sketch play in his work? None of the monographs devoted to Antonín Slavíček completely discuss this topic. Keywords Antonín Slavíček, skica, chrám sv. How Jindřich Prucha understood Antonín Slavíček

The main goal of this Bachelor's thesis is to point out a connection between painter Jindřich Prucha and Antonín Slavíček.The thesis compares and comments several of their paintings, with same or very similar theme. These topics are : funeral, Golden Lane, village Kameničky and view into the forrest. Antonín Slavíček, famous artist belonged to the older generation of artists than Prucha did. Jindřich Prucha belonged to generation of group called Osma, nevertheless their creation remained unfamiliar for him. The main reason was propably acceptance of international themes and procedures, which Prucha fundamentally disapproved. However Prucha finds his place as a continuator of Antonín Slavíček's tradition. They both admired and loved Czech landscape and people living in it, in this aspect Prucha really fully understands Slavíček. As we find out from his correspondence, Prucha may got even further in this tradition. For his creation he needs the exact landscape, which is close to him, and which is his homeland - in his case Iron Mountains.
